James Monroe Letts

James Monroe Letts (1817-1881) served as a captain in Company I of the New York 33rd Regiment during the Civil War. Afterwards he served as a commercial agent in Saint-Marc, Haiti, on behalf of the U.S. consul to Haiti. He was also a student of Mary Baker Eddy's, studying with her in the spring of 1879. He corresponded regularly with Eddy and some of her other students until a short time before his passing.
