James T. Lewis (1819-1904) was born in Clarendon, New York, and died in Columbia, Wisconsin. He was an attorney and Republican politician who served as Wisconsin's Lieutenant Governor (1854-1856), Secretary of State (1862-1864), and Governor (1864-1866). In 1866, he declined his party's re-nomination as governor and retired from public office in order to focus on his family and law practice. Although he expressed an interest in Christian Science, there is no record of him studying with Mary Baker Eddy or uniting with the Church of Christ (Scientist).
