Luther M. Marston (1847-1912) was born in Dummer, Ontario, and died in Los Angeles, California. He was a student of Mary Baker Eddy's, taking Primary (1883) and Normal (1884) class instruction. Marston was a practicing medical physician in Pittsfield, Lynn, and Boston, Massachusetts. He joined the Christian Scientist Association and Church of Christ (Scientist) in January 1884. He was dismissed from both in about 1886 when he formed the Boston College of Metaphysical Science, Church of Divine Unity, and the Mental Healing Publishing Company. Although he had been a practicing physician for many years, he graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Boston in 1896. In the early 1900s, Marston moved to southern California, where he continued to teach his "Science of Spiritual and Christian Healing."
