William H. McGiffert (1836-1888) was born in New York, New York, and died in Kingston, New York. He attended Auburn Theological Seminary and became a Reformed Dutch clergyman. In 1883 he married Phoebe Ella McGiffert (b. James) in Kingston. McGiffert studied Christian Science with Sarah A. Pine, and was a personal acquaintance of Rev. O. P. (Orrin Phillip) Gifford, both students of Mary Baker Eddy. He expressed interest in studying with Eddy himself, but the record does not reflect that he did so.
