Ellen G. McKay (b. Evans) (1866-1957) was born in Illinois and died in
Los Angeles, California. She married George D. McKay, a physician, in Bement, Illinois,
in 1899. They eventually moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, and by 1910 they were living in
Los Angeles. McKay studied Christian Science with John F. Linscott, a student of Mary
Baker Eddy. The McKays both joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston,
Massachusetts, on June 23, 1903. McKay's mother, Mary E. Evans (b. Hopkins), as well as
her daughter, Georgia D. Osgood (b. McKay), were also members. McKay wrote to Mary Baker
Eddy in 1887, inquiring about studying at the Massachusetts Metaphysical College,
however there is no record of her doing so. She was listed as a Christian Science
practitioner in St. Joseph in the directory of
The Christian Science
Journal from 1904 to 1905.
