James A. McLane (1854-1912) was born in Coldwater, Michigan, and died in San Antonio, Texas. He married Helen M. McLane (b. Phillips) in Peoria, Illinois, in 1882, and they moved to Kansas City sometime around 1887. McLane was an attorney, a faculty member of Eclectic Medical College of Kansas City, and a representative in the Missouri state legislature. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Brotherhood of American Yeoman and was a Mason. McLane was a friend of Mary Baker Eddy's student Alfred Farlow. In 1893 he worked with Farlow to locate a suitable meeting place for Christian Science services in Kansas City. McLane passed away while visiting San Antonio.
