William S. McLean (1843-1931) was born in Connecticut and died in North Haven, Connecticut. He worked as a farmer and served in the Civil War as a Union private in Company A of the 1st Regiment, Connecticut Heavy Artillery. He married Martha Elvira Risley in 1869. She wrote to Mary Baker Eddy in 1885, asking for advice on Christian Science treatment through prayer for their daughter, Ellena R. McLean. There is no record of William S. McLean studying with Mary Baker Eddy or uniting with The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
