Michael Meehan (1859-1920) was born in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada, and died in Worcester, Massachusetts. He attended St. Basil's College in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Meehan immigrated to the United States in 1877. He became the county superintendent and principal of schools in Vermilion, South Dakota. In 1884 he married Anastasia "Anna" Meehan (b. Cahill) in Lindsay. Transitioning to a career in journalism, Meehan became the editor and publisher of the Globe newspaper in Carthage, Missouri, a position he held for six years. In 1898, along with George H. Moses, he attended Mary Baker Eddy's last Normal class as a member of the press. His brother Albert Meehan was a member of that class.
In 1902 Michael Meehan became the general manager and editor of the Daily Patriot newspaper in Concord, New Hampshire. The Patriot's owner was Arthur P. DeCamp, a Christian Scientist who went through the Normal class under the auspices of the Board of Education in 1899, and later that year bought a controlling interest in the Patriot in order to have it be a supportive voice for Christian Science while Eddy was living in Concord. Meehan became Eddy's friend and advocate and met with her at her Pleasant View home many times. At her request, he wrote a comprehensive account of the Next Friends suit entitled Mrs. Eddy and the Late Suit in Equity, published in 1908. Also in 1908 he instituted a regular section in the Patriot dedicated to Christian Science news. After the Patriot was sold in about 1912, Meehan moved back to the midwest where he was the business manager of the Daily Journal in Quincy, Illinois, the publicity manager of the Mississippi dam project in Keokuk, Iowa, and the secretary of the Commercial Club in Streator, Illinois. He moved to Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1919.
