George A. Miles (1864-1951) was born in Compton, Quebec, Canada, and died
in Somerville, Massachusetts. He immigrated to the United States in 1886 and lived first
in East Somerville then in Malden, Massachusetts. In October 1886 Miles studied
Christian Science with Mary Baker Eddy's student Augusta E. Stetson, then in May 1887 he
took Eddy's Primary class at the Massachusetts Metaphysical College. He was listed in
the 1887 Somerville City Directory as a Mental Physician. In 1891 Miles graduated from
Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, and then worked as a physician in
Somerville for 60 years, including being on the staff of the Somerville Hospital from
1895 to 1947. He married Alice S. Miles (b. Fisk) in Woodbury, Vermont, in 1892. Miles
was a member of several medical societies, Somerville Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted
Masons, Aleppo Temple, and Mystic Shrine, and was a deacon of the West Somerville
Baptist Church.
