Alice C. Mitchell (b. Wilson) (1853-1912) was born in Oakland Mills, Iowa, and died in Ottumwa, Iowa. As an infant she moved with her family to Mount Pleasant, Iowa. In 1874 she moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where she married Joseph C. Mitchell in 1875. He was a lawyer and was later appointed a district judge. After marriage they moved to Chariton, Iowa, where they remained until 1893, finally settling in Ottumwa where they remained for the rest of their lives. Mitchell was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization Sisterhood and the Protestant Episcopal church and helped organize the Elizabeth Ross chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Ottumwa. In 1886 she wrote to Mary Baker Eddy to order a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
