John A. Moore (1846-1916) was born in Exeter, Maine, and died in
Skowhegan, Maine. He worked as a piano technician and married Ida E. Preston (b. Shaw)
in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1876. They remained in Cambridge until relocating to
Minneapolis, Minnesota, sometime during the late 1880s. The Moores were students of Mary
Baker Eddy, completing the Primary Class together in August 1886, and John went on to
complete the Normal class in October 1887. They both joined the Church of Christ
(Scientist) and were members of the Christian Scientist Association, as well as the
National Christian Scientist Association. Sometime between 1887 and 1899, the couple
divorced. Moore eventually moved to Maine, and worked as a Christian Science
practitioner; first in Pittsfield for many years, followed by Waterville in 1914 until
his passing.
