William W. Murdoch (1852-1929) was born in Alvah, Banffshire, Scotland,
and died in Concord, New Hampshire. He immigrated to the United States in 1886 and
became a naturalized citizen in 1892. In 1888 he married Magdalene "Margaret" Murdoch
(b. Duncan) in Concord. Murdoch worked for Mary Baker Eddy at her Pleasant View home in
Concord from September 1895 until March 1898. His job responsibilities included
gardening, grounds maintenance, haying, livestock procurement and care, obtaining
household supplies, running errands, and supplying flowers weekly to First Church of
Christ, Scientist, Concord, Massachusetts. He lived in a cottage on the Pleasant View
grounds from April 1897 until March 1898. After he left Eddy's employ, he continued
working as a gardener on private estates in the Concord area for the remainder of his
career.
