Mary J. Nutting (b. Winslow) (c.1830-1899) was born in Unity, Maine, and
died in Wakefield, Massachusetts. She married George S. Nutting, an insurance agent, in
Portland, Maine, in 1863, and by 1870 they were living in Newton, Massachusetts. Nutting
studied Christian Science with Mary W. Munroe, a student of Mary Baker Eddy. She joined
The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 31, 1892,
and was a member of The Christian Science Dispensary Association. Nutting was listed in
the directory of
The Christian Science Journal as a Christian
Science practitioner in Newton in 1890 and in Boston, Massachusetts, from 1892 until her
death. Although Nutting intended to study with Eddy, there is no record of her doing
so.
