Sempronia A. Orne (c.1807-1882) was a friend of Mary Baker Eddy's. She was born in Massachusetts, and lived in Orneville, Maine, after her marriage to the Honorable Henry Orne (1789-1853), a former attorney and probate judge. Orneville was initially named "Boyd's Plantation" after Sempronia Orne's uncle, General John Parker Boyd (1764-1830), but it was renamed Orneville after her husband Henry Orne because of his service to the community. After her husband's death, Orne returned to Massachusetts, living in Malden the rest of her life. Though familiar with Eddy's writings and work, she was not a Christian Scientist.
