Charles N. Paine (1831-1885) was born in Orwell, Pennsylvania, and died in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He was a lumber merchant who was the president of C. N. Paine & Co., a sawmill in Oshkosh. In 1885, his sister, Elizabeth S. Elmore, wrote to Mary Baker Eddy to ask for information on Christian Scientists practicing in Wisconsin.
