Parker had various occupations, including knitter and agent booker, and for thirty years he worked to compile and publish an English language dictionary. He also owned and operated a bookstore in Nashua. In 1912 one of the Parkers' sons became a widower with eight young children, four of whom the Parkers subsequently raised. In 1887 Parker wrote to Mary Baker Eddy requesting information on selling Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Several further letters from Parker indicate that he did go on to sell it as well as some of Eddy's other works on Christian Science.
