Alice I. Patton (1852-1897) was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, and died in Hartford, Connecticut. Her father owned a famous bookstore in Waterbury called the Book Haunt, and Patton was financially independent during her lifetime. Her brother resided at the Utica Psychiatric Center in Utica, New York, and during the 1880s Patton would occasionally stay in Rome, New York, while visiting him. Patton wrote to Mary Baker Eddy from Rome in 1887 and again in 1889 with an interest in studying at the Massachusetts Metaphysical College, however there is no record of her doing so. After the death of her mother in 1889, Patton resided at the Hotel Capitol in Hartford, where she lived for almost a decade before ending her life.
