Andrew P. (Andrew Preston) Peabody (1811-1893) was born in Beverly, Massachusetts, and died in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was a Unitarian pastor who graduated from Harvard University in 1826 at age 15. In 1833, he became pastor of the South Parish church in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and held its pastorate until 1860. Later in 1860, he joined Harvard University as Preacher to the University and Plummer Professor of Christian Morals. While working at Harvard, he twice served as Acting President of the University--in 1862 and 1868-1869. Peabody retired from Harvard in 1881, and afterwards, at the invitation of Mary Baker Eddy, he preached several times at the Church of Christ (Scientist) between 1884-1886. Although he preached at the Church, there is no record of Peabody joining the Church or studying with Eddy.
