Cornelia P. Peabody (b. Painter) (1845-1908) was born in Plymouth,
Connecticut, and died in Waterbury, Connecticut. She worked as a shirtmaker until she
married Gustavus W. Peabody in Plymouth in 1865. He was a Civil War veteran who was a
merchant and later a farmer. After marriage they lived in New Haven, Connecticut, moving
to Waterbury sometime before 1880 and then to Windham, Connecticut, prior to 1900. Both
Peabody and her husband studied Christian Science with William T. Seaver, one of Mary
Baker Eddy's students. In 1887 Peabody's husband wrote to Eddy that the two of them
desired to take further courses of study with her, but the available records do not
indicate that they did so.
