Edward H. Phelps (1842-1897) was born in Belchertown, Massachusetts, and
died in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was the principal owner of the Phelps Publishing
Company, publishers of
Springfield Homestead,
New England Homestead (of which he was editor),
Farm and
Home,
American Agriculturist, and other periodicals.
He married Harriet Goulding in 1865, and for many years he occupied the position of
organist in various Springfield churches.
