John J. Plunkett (1850-1914) was born in Amesbury, Massachusetts, and died in New York, New York. He was the first husband of Mary H. Plunkett, who was a former student of Mary Baker Eddy's and a member of the New Thought movement. The Plunketts were married in Boston in 1870 and divorced in New York in 1889. From 1888 until their divorce, the Plunketts maintained a mental healing practice together in New York. Shortly after the divorce, John remarried and moved to San Francisco, California, where he started a new mental healing practice alongside his second wife, Irene V. Plunkett. Later, in about 1908, he returned to New York, living there until his passing.
