Rebecca A. Pontius (b. Smith) (1832-1906) was born in Reading, Ohio, and died in Larned, Kansas. She married John C. Pontius, a farmer, in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1852, and they were living in Illinois by 1860. Sometime between 1870 and 1880 they moved to Iowa and helped found The Christian Home Association in Council Bluffs. They moved to Larned around 1895. Pontius' sister, Sarah E. Ticknor, and brother-in-law, Elias W. Ticknor, were students of Mary Baker Eddy. Although Pontius expressed an interest in studying with Eddy, there is no record of her doing so.
