Horace N. Poole (1845-1897) was born in Boothbay, Maine, and died in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. He was a student of Mary Baker Eddy's, completing the Primary class (1884) and Normal class (1887). He was also an active member of the Christian Scientist Association and the Church of Christ (Scientist). In the spring of 1888, Poole and other students caused a split within the Association over its response to the Abby Corner court case. After leaving the Christian Science movement, Poole, alongside his wife, Mary, maintained a healing practice in Boston until his passing.
