Mary L. Poore (c.1833- 1896) was born in Hopkinton, New Hampshire, and
died in Boston, Massachusetts. During the summer of 1883, she received treatment from
Charles Osgood, a metaphysician based in Charlestown, Massachusetts. Osgood loaned her a
copy of
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, and she
became interested in Christian Science. Poore wanted to go to Boston to study at the
Massachusetts Metaphysical College but did not have the money to do so. Despite
expressing an interest in Christian Science, Poore never studied with Mary Baker Eddy or
joined the Church of Christ (Scientist).
