William Richardson (1847-1934) was born in West Auckland, England, and
died in Elk Mountain, Wyoming. He worked as a coal miner in England before immigrating
to the United States in 1869. Between then and 1875 he lived in Illinois, Missouri, and
Indiana before moving to Carbon County, Wyoming, to work in the coal mines there. In
1880 he married Mary Jane Richardson (b. Bloomer), who ran a boarding house. They
established a homestead in Elk Mountain and went into the cattle business, eventually
expanding their business to include their three sons who each owned ranches adjoining
the Richardson homestead. In 1886 Richardson sent a letter to Mary Baker Eddy from
nearby Laramie, Wyoming, to order two copies of
Science and Health with
Key to the Scriptures.
