T. W. (Thomas Warren) Ripley (1833-1912) was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and died in Southern Pines, North Carolina. He was educated at Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts. After leaving Phillips, he learned the printing trade in the office of the Boston Evening Transcript. In 1858, he became a master printer and conducted a successful printing business for forty-four years.
