William H. H. Saunders (1841-1907) was born in Grafton, New York, and died in Poestenkill, New York. By 1860 he had moved with his family to Troy, New York. He was a Civil War veteran, serving as a private in Company D of the 125th Regiment of the New York Infantry. After the war, he worked as a bookkeeper in Troy, part of that time in the Treasurer's Office at the Rensselaer County Courthouse. In about 1868 he married Rebecca Saunders (b. Steward). She was a seamstress. Saunders wrote to Mary Baker Eddy several times in 1886 and 1887 to order Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and other Christian Science literature. He joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on June 4, 1898.
