Jennie E. Sawyer (1846-1932) was born in Delavan, Wisconsin, and died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She and her husband, Silas J. Sawyer, were both students of Mary Baker Eddy's, taking Primary (1883 and 1884) and Normal (1886) class instruction with her. She joined the Christian Scientist Association in January 1884, and in January 1894, joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, and was a member until her passing. In 1884, she became a Christian Science practitioner and teacher and advertised in the directory of The Christian Science Journal until 1932. Sawyer was a pioneer worker for Christian Science in Wisconsin, working alongside her husband at the Wisconsin Metaphysical Institute, chartered in 1884. She was also a founding member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Milwaukee, which was organized and chartered in 1889.
