Marie Josephine Schmidt (1847-1900) was born and died in Baltimore, Maryland. Schmidt was a member of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Baltimore, Maryland. After her sister, Louise M. Schmidt, joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on September 30, 1893, Schmidt joined on October 6, 1894. They both studied Christian Science with Julia Field-King, a student of Mary Baker Eddy. In 1895, Field-King undertook her own research project to prove that Eddy was a direct descendant of King David of Israel; Schmidt aided Field-King by providing genealogical research. Schmidt was listed alongside her sister in the directory of The Christian Science Journal as a Christian Science practitioner in Baltimore from 1895 until her death.
