C. W. (Clarence Watkins) Scott (1849-1930) was born in Plymouth, Vermont, and died in Durham, New Hampshire. He was a librarian, lawyer, and educator. He was a member of the Dartmouth College class of 1874. Upon graduation, he worked as Librarian of Dartmouth College until 1878. After leaving the Library, he was admitted to the Vermont bar and worked briefly as a lawyer. In 1881, he was appointed professor of English Language and Literature at New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts (known today as the University of New Hampshire). Scott taught various subjects at the University until his passing.
