John L. Scott (1818-1881) was born in Lempster, New Hampshire, and died
in Stoughton, New Hampshire. Around 1845 he married Jane T. Scott (b. Damon), and they
settled in Stoughton. Scott worked as a bootmaker. In 1869 he was healed through prayer
by Mary Baker Eddy during the time she was living with Alanson C. and Sally Wentworth in
Stoughton. Eddy wrote about this experience in the April 1886 issue of The Christian
Science Journal, and it was also described by Robert Peel in his biography entitled
Mary Baker Eddy: The Years of Discovery.
