Helen E. Sealy (b. Wood) (1837-1925) was born in Troy, Pennsylvania, and died in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She married Robert P. Sealy, a house painter and colonel with the Union Army during the American Civil War, in Winnebago, Illinois, in 1860. They moved to Council Bluffs in 1868. Sealy studied Christian Science with Jennie B. Fenn, a student of Mary Baker Eddy, in August 1886. She also studied with Mary D. Porterfield, who was another student of Eddy. Although Sealy expressed an interest in studying with Eddy herself, there is no record of her doing so. Sealy joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on April 4, 1896 and was well-known in Christian Science circles in Council Bluffs upon her death.
