C. W. (Charles Wallace) Silver (1852-1916) was born in Springboro, Ohio, and died in San Antonio, Texas. Silver graduated from the University of Illinois in 1872 and then worked as a school teacher in Illinois and Kansas. In 1880, he founded Hillman & Silver, a general merchant, in Lyons, Kansas. He left the business in 1889 and moved to Durango, Mexico, to manage and promote his business interests, including the International Mexico Land, Lumber and Stock Development Co. Silver was introduced to Christian Science by Alfred S. Lang, the younger brother of Susie M. Lang, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's. There is no record of Silver uniting with the Church of Christ (Scientist), but records suggest he remained a private student of Christian Science.
