Frances A. Spinney (1829-1913) was a lifelong resident of Lynn, Massachusetts. She was a student of Mary Baker Eddy's, studying with her in Lynn in 1871. Spinney was the proprietor of a shoe-stitching business in Lynn, and during the Civil War, her business was awarded a government contract to manufacture garments for the Union Army. Although she studied with Mary Baker Eddy, there is no record of her joining the Christian Scientist Association of uniting with the Church of Christ (Scientist). Records suggest that she had left the Christian Science movement by 1881.
