Alvin L. Sprague (1855-1892) was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and died in
Gardner, Massachusetts. He worked at his father's hardware store, H.O. Sprague &
Son, in Westfield, Massachusetts, and married Fannie I. Shurtleff there in 1877. The
Spragues became interested in Christian Science in 1886, writing to Mary Baker Eddy to
order copies of her writings and other Christian Science literature. They appear to have
been active in the early Christian Science community in Westfield and the surrounding
area, ordering and distributing Christian Science literature.
