Edward R. Taylor (1843-1913) was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, and died in Brooklyn, New York. After immigrating to the United States he lived in Berkshire, Springfield, and Boston, Massachusetts before moving to Brooklyn. In 1861 he married Mary A. Taylor (b. West). She died in 1879, and in 1882 he married Blanche B. Taylor (b. Field). Taylor worked for 30 years as a newspaper reporter, writer, and editor, first for The Brooklyn Eagle and then for the New York Herald. In the mid-1880s he also served as the manager of the Eastern and Metropolitan Press Association. Later in life he became an insurance broker. A Freemason for 42 years, he was a member of the Commonwealth Lodge in Brooklyn. In 1887 he wrote to Mary Baker Eddy to request a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, saying that he wished to promote its sales and to advance the cause of Christian Science generally.
