Katie Van Tine (b. Strong) (1859-1917) was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and died in Detroit, Michigan. She married William H. Van Tine Jr. in Cuyahoga, Ohio, in 1878. He worked as an insurance agent, a real estate agent, an interior decorator and an architect. His time as a real estate agent in Cleveland caused the couple to file for bankruptcy in the U.S. Court in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1900, owing $600,000. Van Tine's indebtedness was caused by her jointly endorsing notes with her husband.

By 1900 the couple were living in Pittsburgh. Van Tine was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on June 2, 1900. She was listed in the directory of The Christian Science Journal as a Christian Science practitioner in Pittsburgh from 1901 to 1904. Van Tine was called by Mary Baker Eddy to become a member of her household and joined on December 30, 1907. She was one of the household members who accompanied Eddy on the day she moved from her Pleasant View home in Concord, New Hampshire, to Chestnut Hill, Boston, Massachusetts, in January 1908.
