Arvilla "Villa" W. White (1858-1933) was born in Norton, Massachusetts,
and died in Portland, Oregon. She was a professional singer who sang around the world
and also worked as a music teacher. By 1889, she was living in Boston, Massachusetts.
White studied Christian Science with Eldora O. Gragg, a student of Mary Baker Eddy. In
1895, she was living in Providence, Rhode Island. White was a member of First Church of
Christ, Scientist, Chicago, Illinois, and sang at its dedication in 1897. She joined The
First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 1, 1898, and was
elected soloist of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Concord, New Hampshire, from
1899-1903. She was listed in the directory of
The Christian Science
Journal as a Christian Science practitioner in Brookline, Massachusetts, in
1904. By 1930, she had moved to Portland.
