Henry W. White (1848-1896) was born in Vassalboro, Maine, and died in
Auburn, Maine. During the Civil War, he enlisted as a Private in Company C of the Maine
2nd Cavalry Regiment. After the war, he suffered from chronic illness and was unable to
hold regular employment. He became interested in Christian Science in the spring of 1883
and studied
Science and Health with an unknown teacher. Despite
expressing an interest, White never studied with Mary Baker Eddy or joined the
Church of Christ (Scientist).
