Sara P. Whiting (b. Plumb) (1838-1921) was born in Lenox, Ohio, and died
in Streator, Illinois. She married Otis S. Whiting, a farmer and soldier, in Lee, Iowa,
in 1857. Otis passed away in 1863, and Whiting moved to Illinois sometime between 1870
and 1880. She studied Christian Science with Mary P. Nichols, a student of Mary Baker
Eddy. Although Whiting expressed interest in studying with Eddy herself, there is no
record of her doing so. Whiting joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston,
Massachusetts, on November 7, 1905.
