Emma J. Whitlock (c. 1844-1890) was born in Saint Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada, and died in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada. She first learned of Christian Science while in Calais, Maine. Josephine Tyter, a student of Mary Baker Eddy, sold her Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, which she read and studied. Whitlock then studied Christian Science with Julia S. Bartlett, a student of Eddy, in Calais in August 1885. She painted portraits for a living before becoming a Christian Science practitioner and giving lectures on Christian Science in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Whitlock was a member of the Church of Christ (Scientist) and of the National Christian Scientist Association.
