John Greenleaf Whittier (1807-1892) was an American poet and abolitionist born in Haverhill, Massachusetts. In 1868, while staying in Amesbury, Massachusetts, with her student Sarah O. Bagley, Mary Baker Eddy visited an ailing Whittier and healed him of consumption.
