James Wiley (1816-1882) was a carpenter who was born in St. George,
Maine, and died in Lynn, Massachusetts. Records suggest that he was a student of Asa G.
Eddy's, studying with him in the fall of 1877. Wiley joined the Church of Christ
(Scientist) in 1879. He was admitted to the Christian Scientist Association as an
honorary member in September 1881. He was a charter member and one of the first
directors of the Massachusetts Metaphysical College until December 1881, when he
resigned his position and withdrew from the Church and Association.
