Mary E. Wood (b. Pike) (1837-1925) was born in Calais, Maine, and died in
Lawrence, Massachusetts. She married Philander Wood in Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1860.
Over his career he worked as a shoemaker, in a wholesale shoe shop, in a cotton mill,
and as a mason. By 1870 the couple lived in Westbrook, Maine, by 1880 they had moved to
Lawrence, Massachusetts, and by the 1890s they had moved to Salem, New Hampshire. After
her husband's death in 1895, Wood moved back to Lawrence and resided with her daughter's
family for the rest of her life. Wood took the Primary class from Mary Baker Eddy in
October 1882 and subsequently became a member of the Christian Scientist
Association.
