John L. Wright (1872-1932) was born in Keene, New Hampshire, and died in Wellesley, Massachusetts. He moved to Chelsea, Massachusetts, around 1890. Wright worked as a reporter for The Boston Globe, where he covered the areas of Chelsea and East Boston, eventually being promoted to assistant night city editor. For ten years he was a partner and one of the editors of the Chelsea Gazette. He married Grace S. Wright (b. Stevens) in Chelsea in 1898. The Wrights were members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Chelsea, Massachusetts, where they both served as Readers. They joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts (also known as The Mother Church), on June 3, 1899.
Wright wrote Mary Baker Eddy in March 1908, wishing to establish a Boston daily Christian Science newspaper that was owned by Christian Scientists, however Eddy noted that she already had such a paper titled The Christian Science Monitor in mind. Wright went on to serve as the first city editor for the publication when it was established later that year, and he continued working in various editorial positions for it until 1922. By 1910 the Wrights were living in Newton, Massachusetts, where Wright became a Freemason and a member of Dalhousie Lodge F. & A.M. in 1921. He founded the Real Estate News in 1923 and was its editor. The Wrights moved to Wellesley sometime between 1924 and 1930 and both withdrew their memberships from The Mother Church in 1928.
