571 Columbus Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts, became Mary Baker Eddy's home as well as the home of the Massachusetts Metaphysical College on March 21, 1884, when she moved her home and her College from 569 Columbus Avenue, the building next door. She lived here for about three years and nine months, until moving to her own home, 385 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston. Chartered in 1881, Eddy taught courses in Christian Science healing at the College. It cost Mary Baker Eddy $1000 a year to rent the building from her landlord, William Whiston. After moving to Commonwealth Avenue, Eddy sublet 571 Columbus Avenue to Frank E. Mason, the Church's assistant pastor. Eddy continued to teach at the College until May 1889. The College was dissolved in October 1889, although the Church continued to hold meetings at the College building until December 1889.
