The opera houseEditorial Note: The Coates Opera House in Kansas City was the city's original first class theater, until it was destroyed by a fire in 1901. seats about two thousand (2,000) people and the ushers reported that hundreds were turned away from the door.
The entire audience remained in almost breathless silence until the close of the two hours talk. The lecture was published in full in the Kas. City Daily JournalEditorial Note: Kimball's lecture, "Christian Science: Defense of the Faith by those who practice it," was published in full in the June 21, 1898 issue of the Kansas City Journal. The newspaper report confirmed Farlow's account that the opera house was filled to capacity for the lecture. and we had many calls for the papers after the supply was exhausted, notwithstanding the fact that an extra supply was printed. A businessmanAs Written:business man came into our office to tell me that he did not attend the lecture but read it in the paper and it had convinced him. We have had two orders for "Science and HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy" from parties outside of the city who read the lecture.
