Dear Mother-

Mrs Bates brought me the plans, and I must say that they are of no use to you - so the better way is to pay your local man a fair price for what he has done, and be through with him. The usual price for such plans is one and a half percent on the estimated value of the work. this is for preliminary drawings. You can no doubt arrange this easily. As pr your instructions I will go ahead and have prepared a suitable entrance, Porte Cochere, and such other additions as you may desire, also place the Heater, and paint the inside of the house as far as you desire to go. We shall be pleased to have suggestions from you which will advise us as to your wishes, but will not burden you with the details. I return plans by mail today. The envelope which you returned to me had been opened and resealed in my opinion.

I am having an abstract of the law of Massachusetts made and will forward to you soon. We are advised that two more of the houses on Falmouth StEditorial Note: The Bates were purchasing some properties around The First Church of Christ, Scientist, which were used for the Publishing Society and later the Extension of The Mother Church. were purchased by our Agents yesterday, making four so far. It comes to me that the day is at hand when you will have plenty of good competent businessmenAs Written:bussiness men to carry on your work. You will not be obliged to study for months over an appointment. When such men as Edward A– Kimball of ChicagoEditorial Note: Chicago, Illinois - and Mr Metcalf of Boston are coming into our ranks, it will not be long before we shall have plenty of this element.

Why would not Mr Metcalf make a good director? We would say at first that he was not your Student, and perhaps did not understand how to handle certain questions. But he has given an Organ valued at $10,000Editorial Note: 10000.00 to this Church erected as a testimonial to you, and this is a better demonstration of its kind than any of us students have made. He gives this as a love offering to a cause which has redeemed his wife from a former invalidism. He is a gentleman of culture and refinement, and I wish I could say this of all who are trying to work out this great problem. My only thought is whether it would be right to place him in a prominent position, without first educating him to use the weapons which God has given him.

Today I see the hope of twenty years realized. In that former day I looked forward longingly to a time when a thousand earnest students should attend a Church and study the Bible for a service. I saw all this and more in our Church today- Every seat taken, some standing, all intent on hearing the Truth. With Science and HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy to interpret the Word we are doubly blest. The false prophets are all agog. They predicted that when sermonizing was stopedEditorial Note: On December 19, 1894, Mary Baker Eddy ordained the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy as the Pastor of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. On January 20, 1895, readings from the Bible and Science and Health replaced personal sermons, and Readers replaced preachers in The Mother Church services. our audiences would be depleted, but the fact is the people are hungry to hear the Truth and they are packing our Church. An incident occurred during the past week which is worthy of mention. A lady who is somewhat interested in Christian Science was taken into the "Mothers RoomEditorial Note: The Mother's Room was a room built for Mary Baker Eddy during the building of the Original Edifice of The Mother Church. A group of children called the Busy Bees fund raised for the construction and furnishing of this room. On April 1, 1895, Eddy visited the Original Edifice for the first time and spent the night in the Mother's Room. The Mother's Room was closed in October 1908.". She told her husband when she arrived home that she had been in Heaven. She must have felt the thought of those 2400 children who sent their love tokens to make it a beautiful expression of their love.

I desire to see you soon after the tenth day of February. Can you make it convenient to have me come soon after above day. I go to SyracuseEditorial Note: Syracuse, New York tonight to further adjust my matters in order to devote more time to the work. I will keep you advised as to my movements, and shall expect to return to Boston by Thursday or Friday next.
