My dear Teacher

Your kind letter received – And you must pardon me if I did wrong in my desire to defend our causeEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science. in telling you of it - I certainly can work better if I know who our enemies As Written: enemys are – and have seen so many Students sit still and tremble over these things – until I have felt almost a disgust at the cowardice and lack of bravery to stand up for the right and put it down- I entirely went out of self when I rose up in arms after these things were wafted about our City and getting some of the Students together had them sit with me and work for our City-Cause and to stop these sayings which were disturbing them – Now I said- which do you think is best to listen to the voice of the enemy – or go to work in ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science & Master it – They promised they would do the right way hereafter As Written: here-after – and all these things are fading away now –

The Enemy seemed determined I should not have my class – I determined I would if I had to teach all free – so I invited a few who were ready but not able to pay - & I have a class of five and am getting along fine – and they express themselves As Written: them-selves pleased – among them is Mrs. Libby – While I was in BostonEditorial Note: Boston, Massachusetts. she went through Dr- B– Sherman’s class – She came to me and was so unhappy & cried As Written: cryed so about it – I said Mrs- Libby I wanted you to go to Mrs. Eddy – She said she could not leave her Husband or rather he would not consent – so I saw her need was so great I invited her to go through my class – and she says now she is getting cleared up – She is a grand woman and one who will do great good for our beloved Science –

How rich are your pearls in the last magazine – I was thrilled when I read them – All the world could not buy from us this wine of Life and how small & ignorant we little feeble things are, the more we advance the more we are made to see the littleness of all human things – and you can never know how small we do feel when we attempt to teach this beautiful Science – and Mrs. Eddy I wonder at you how you can ever trust us with it – but I tell the class no one can present this Treasure as you do and it seems to me an attempt is child's As Written: childs play – but such as I have give I unto them” and can only seek the Father's blessing prayerfully – knowing we are nothing without Him –

My Sister is still here is loath As Written: loth to depart and I am Loath As Written: loth to part with her – she is gaining and I tell her my experience alone through many deep water'sIsa 43:2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. will help her if she will heed me in her journey Truthward As Written: Truth-ward

With all the thanks to you for the beautiful lessons As Written: lesson's I am learning and your kind patience if I do wrong – and with a hope that you will know I cannot do wrong willfully As Written: wilfully

I am your loving Student
Mrs. J. H. Bell

Mr- Day preached a most beautiful sermon last Sunday & that night he had an attack He sent me word to help him – my Sister & self are protecting – He could hardly yesterday – word came today As Written: to-day he is getting better – Horrid old things how I love to fight them –
