I have seen a party who is well acquainted with English ways & customs, who told me that if I send a cablegram to Stationers Hall London where copyrights are granted the officials there will give the desired information as it is a part of their business. Their fee he tells me is a guinea that is 1£. 1sh. If they have to do an extra amount of work it might be more but he thinks that would cover it. You know that that would be about $5.25Editorial Note: $5.25 in 1885 is the equivalent of $138.37 in 2019..

That sum with price of cablegram over & back would be it seems to me all required. Stationers Hall you know answer to one Patent office. Mr. ClarkEditorial Note: Possibly Henry H. Clark is a good man to go to & he furnished me this information thro' a friend of mine gratis so I know it is reliable. If Mr. Frye will come down in the morning by 8 o' clock with your wish we will just it through. I send this by messenger tonightAs Written:to night to avoid delay.

Yours trulyAs Written:try
